Today Exway released a statement about a comparison video made by Evolve Skateboards. Evolve compared their GTR against a pre-production Exway Flex on their Youtube channel. Attempting to make the general audience believe Evolve is a premium brand at the cost of Exway. But would a true premium brand really go that far?
Fear of chinese brands
We have all seen the market shift these past few months. American and European brands are struggling to survive, as Chinese brands like Exway gain momentum. Evolve thought it would be a good marketing idea to try and shit on Exway as much as possible in 12 minutes. Claiming build quality, materials and customer service are below standards, and generally trying to make the viewer feel bad and unsafe on competitor brands.
Comparing a pre-production demo sample
What makes the attempt more tragic is the fact that Evolve compared a retail version of their GTR to an unreleased pre-production sample of the Exway Flex. A model with a beta firmware, unfinished hardware and lower performance. But how can Evolve get their hands on pre-production units from competitors? Exway explains their beta board was leaked by Jay Boston. Jay received the board late Februari and as it seems, breached his agreement and shipped the pre-production model off to competitor Evolve for unknown reasons.
We have reached out to both Jay Boston and Evolve for comment, and will update this article accordingly.
Full statement by Exway
Exway states that they were not informed about anything. And explain the video to be full of inaccurate and misleading information. They end their statement explaining their vision and position in the electric skateboard market, and they hope for a more positive and mature relation with Evolve in the future.

I’m too nervous to buy anything directly from China for fear of customer service issues. Don’t want to wait 3 months for a replacement part!
Had the same fears, so Purchaded a backfire eBoard from Amazon and got a 3 year warranty from armazon.
Find a Chinese manufacturer with a local distributor – best of both scenarios, you’re paying less but not left up the proverbial creek if something does fail.
Play It safe bro,buy one for the ride and one for spare parts.Never back in for a “order” delay 😉👍
you could also just learn how to diy and that way you can fix it yourself instead of complaing to the company trust me they are hella fun to wrench on.
I’m a rider up in the wild north of Alberta Canada yo. Regardless of who done what wrong, Matty from Evolve is 100% right with what he states, you get what you pay for, if you want something cheap from china, don’t expect it to keep up with a premium board like evolve… And good luck with customer service!!
Well, I got my Meepo V2 from China. There was an issue with the ESC case cracking, so I contacted them. Got a new one and they informed me that they were changing the material to aluminum. Hasn’t had problems with it. The specs leave Boosted and others in the dust. Keep paying premium prices buddy😄
A premium Made in China board with inferior specs to cheaper boards? 😂
I’m in Australia and won’t buy an Exway because of the stories I have heard but even more so because of Matty’s arrogance. It has probably cost the company more than the salary he draws….
Just waiting to see what Exway’s Atlas is like 😁
I bought the Exway Flex Riot and its the best thing I have ever purchased.
