Bill to legalize e-bikes, e-scooters in New York to be voted on today

Albany lawmakers have reportedly reached an agreement to legalize e-bikes and e-scooters throughout New York state, which may lead to big transportation changes in New York City.

Riding certain electric-assist vehicles across New York State currently results in a $500 fine, which are unfair for low-income workers.

Lawmakers have agreed to legislation that will make e-bikes with electronic assist and e-scooters legal in the state. The bill, expected to be voted on today, will allow municipalities to decide how to regulate e-scooters.

We will update this article when the voting is complete.
